The Lead Auditor Training class provides delegates who intend to lead ISO 9001 Quality Audits or build an effective Quality Management System with the knowledge and skills they need to assess and report on the conformance and effective implementation of processes that contribute to the continual improvement of Quality Management Systems.
ISO Lead Auditor Role
In the context of ISO standards, such as ISO 9001, the roles of an Internal Auditor and a Lead Auditor are distinct, each serving specific purposes within an organization’s quality management system.
- Primary Role: Internal Auditors are responsible for performing audits, while Lead Auditors oversee and manage the audit teams during an audit. They can conduct both internal and external audits. For external audits, they assess other organizations’ compliance with ISO standards.
- Focus: The Internal Auditors assess whether the processes are being carried out as planned and whether these processes are effective in meeting the organization’s quality objectives. The Lead Auditor has a broader scope, focusing not only on compliance but also on the effectiveness of the audit program. They lead the audit team and ensure that audits are conducted systematically and that the audit objectives are achieved.
- Scope of Work: Lead Auditors are responsible for preparing audit plans, leading opening and closing meetings, compiling audit reports, and ensuring that the audit is conducted in an unbiased and ethical manner.
- Training and Certification: Lead Auditors must complete additional training. This training covers advanced auditing techniques, leadership skills, and in-depth knowledge of the ISO standards. They must pass an exam and sometimes fulfill other requirements, such as having a certain number of years of auditing experience.
